This Is Me
In 2012, she performed at the Skirball Center for Performing Arts in NYC as Marie in The Most Happy Fella. Nayeli performed much of the music that was cut from the original Broadway show which was reinstated in this production, including Marie's solos "Eyes Like a Stranger" and "Nobody's Ever Gonna Love You". Other NYU credits include City of Angels (Angel City Four Alto), and Fiorello! (Cutie/Striker), and more.
Nayeli also performs her own work as a solo artist. Her music most recently took her to Central America, where she gave concerts at Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) and at the National Theatre of El Salvador. She arranged and produced her first single, José Maria Cano's "Hijo de la luna", which is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.
Nayeli began performing at six years of age, while being taught how to sing by her father. She instantly fell in love with music and the creation of art. She began studying voice with Susan Blyth-Schofield - who remains her teacher, coach and guide - at age 8. It was at this time she also began her studies in piano and music theory/composition with Cheryl Wallace through Music for Young Children, and later with Aviva Lightstone. Until her final year of high school she was an annual participant in Ottawa's Kiwanis Music Festival and the NATS competition, and also performed at music clubs such as the Ottawa West Junior Music Club and Laurentian Junior Music Club. For those ten years, Nayeli prepared with her mother as her unofficial acting coach in both classical and music theatre repertoire.
Nayeli is fluent in English, Spanish, French, educated in Italian and German, and is currently studying American Sign Language.
Thank you for visiting! I'm so happy to introduce myself to you.
First things first, I always get asked how I got the name, "Nayeli" (pronounced: nah-YELL-ee).
Well, it's kind of a funny story actually. Back in the time before Google, my parents asked their friends how to say "moonbeam" in Zapotec (an old Mayan language), and they were told "Nayeli". However about twenty years later, I realized that "Nayeli" actually means something far more beautiful: "I love you". Isn't that such a beautiful accident? :)
